with Fred Watkins

This week we had an opportunity to speak with Fred Watkins – the White House core staff photographer. Fred is working documenting history of our government since Reagan’s administration. He had an opportunity to witness and photograph Nelson Mandela visit to U.S., and was accompanying him in his trip to his former prison cell, making an iconic image of the moment.
We explored his path as a photographer, starting from freelance celebrity photography, continuing with his first feature in Life magazine about Farrakhan, and continuing into working with every president of the past decades.
We had spoken about approaching exhibition of Fred Watkins’ works in X-Gallery in Harlem (163 Malcolm X Blvd, 118th St., NY 10026), which will start on February 9th, 2018. Fred have spoken about book about his photography being currently prepared for release.
